Picnic in the Parc: Summerconcert op der Kinnekswiss, 4 July 2026

For the second year, the Cambridge Society organised an informal gathering of members, friends and family on the Kinnekswiss for the Luxembourg Philharmonic’s end-of season Summerconcert “Bella Notte- Puccini and Verdi” with Sonya Yoncheva, (soprano) and Vittorio Grigolo (tenor). Martin Rajna, the orchestra’s new Musical Director, wielded the baton for the first time. We also invited our friends from the Oxford Society to join us.

On a beautiful warm summer evening there was an enormous crowd filling the Kinnekswiss with their picnics and refreshments. We thought we were in good time to claim our patch on the grass, but it was already very full when we arrived, we only just managed to squeeze ourselves in. Next year we will have to aim to get there at least one hour earlier! Indeed the crowds were so dense that some of our participants were unable find us and settled down wherever they found a square inch free!! And one person decided got a bit lost and eventually decided to go home!

The concert itself was excellent, two first class singers and the Luxembourg Philharmonic with its new conductor shone in this popular repertoire. Plenty of humour as well. A lovely evening!
