This year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Cambridge Society of Luxembourg, held at the Brasserie Kirchberg, was particularly significant because the Society was required to adopt new Articles of Association in order to comply with the 2023 law on non-profit organisations and foundations. To avoid the need for a further Extraordinary General Meeting, this required two-thirds of the members with a vote to be present at the meeting or represented by a Power of Attorney (PoA), always something of a challenge to arrange.
But we managed it! There were 16 members present at the meeting and 32 represented by a PoA, more than two-thirds of the 61 voting members of the Society. The new Articles were adopted unanimously, and will now be submitted to the Luxembourg Business Registers (Registre de Commerce et des Sociétés).
The AGM also reviewed the Activities Report and the Financial Report for 2024, which reflected the wide range of social, cultural and outreach activities undertaken during the year. The future activities of the Society that are in the pipeline continue to offer something for all the members.
The mandates of 7 of the Board members were extended for a further year, and two new members we appointed to replace two who stepped down. Martin Curwen who has been the President of the Society for many years informed the AGM that he was standing down as President, though staying on the Committee. The assembly thanked Martin for his considerable contribution to the Society and to the Committee during his long period as President of the Society.
The Committee subsequently appointed John Speed, its former Secretary, as its new President. Norry Welch takes over as Secretary, and Giordano Tomasini becomes the new Treasurer. Rakesh Bhana continues as Membership Secretary.
Following the formal business of the AGM the members present relaxed over an excellent meal served by the Brasserie.
